It is, of course, not just a matter of technique. Facilitating the development of [young] people and groups, requires more than just a box full of activities and techniques. Adventure education combined with experiential learning is an extra-ordinary powerful combination. And at the same time, adventurous activities as such are not [necessarily] sufficient ingredients to ensure growth or development. Opportunities to learn, to grow present themselves continuously. As a trainer or facilitator, it’s quite important to be able not only to propose activities with possible learning benefits, but also to recognise opportunities for growth whenever they pop up. To ensure that they do not unwittingly pass by, but instead to make sure they at least cán be grabbed.
Group development is an important factor in the process of actively creating and seizing opportunities for personal development. It enables individuals to learn with and from each other. It offers the possibility for participants to explore new ways of dealing with other people and situations.
